The doc is split in two parts of about an hour and ten minutes a pieces so you can burn the show onto DVDs (2 DVDs) if you so desire.
You can join the files together with any kind of "file joining program". I use a program called ROSETTA because I find it works great on my Mac. If you use an IBM, I'm not sure what you'd use but I am sure there are many.
The original creators of the documentary have given me permission to share this unique documentary but ask once again that if you do download it and decide to copy it or share it, please do not sell it or in any way create profit with it.
This was their sole requirement for posting it on YouTube and now here on
this blog. If you don't know how to download and joins parts posted on Rapidshare, please go to their website and read about it.
I won't be able to answer your technical questions because I am not a technical person and rarely find time to check in.
I subscribe to Rapidshare for a very small amount of money and you might want to think about it as well, because downloading all 108 parts of the Quest doc for free will take a while.
A long, long, while.
The good news is, is that even the missing chapters you can now see in one long movie file.

ReplyDeleteGlad you could enjoy it! Sorry to say, I didn't create the documentary myself but have the honor of posting and sharing it with other Quest fans.
All I am sure about is that the music used throughout the doc was from a private collectors 2 Disc set of Hoyt Curtin's cues for the show.
The cues had all the audio slates on them as well, plus variations, and alternate takes. I have never seen these discs, or been able to find them or even see them made availible anywhere, including ebay.

ReplyDeleteThe bit torrent client will pretty much walk you through the process of creating the .torrent file. Then you just have to upload it to a Tracker site, like Mininova.org or ThePirateBay.org. Those are the two biggest that I can think of...
I second that there are far too many split files for rapidshare to be practical. To make a torrent, download a client piece of software. select the video file (and whatever else) without zipping or raring them (generally a nice thing to do in case someone doesn't want certain files) then pick "New Torrent" usually from the "File" menu. All you have to do then is upload the tiny .torrent file and we will all start to download the file from you and each other.

Encoding is taking a little longer than i thought. I missed a setting and had to redo the first disc. I have limited HD space, and an old processor, so it takes about 5 hours a job.

Just wanted to add that I've successfully downloaded both parts from Rapidshare using a Windows program called Rapidshare Plus. It basically does the same steps required to download files for free automatically. You just add your links to the que and it'll slowly download away in the background. Works fine if you're not in a rush!

Has anyone had luck making this a torrent? After eons, I downloaded the rapidshare files, but can't open them, tried at least 5 joining programs and none of them worked. I'm appreciative for making the documentary available, but it's frustrating when you can't even watch them.
ReplyDeleteThere's a rather "spirited" individual who disputes one statement in this documentary and therefore believes that NOTHING in it can be trusted, so it can't be used as a source for Wikipedia. Anything you can do to establish its credentials? I know that the one guy is a lost cause, but other editors would legitimately like to know the sourcing for it.
ReplyDeleteAll the interviews and articles quoted in the production are credited at the end of the doc in the sequence where cels are shown becoming actual shots from the episodes.

ReplyDeleteHi There ! Big Jonny Quest fan, saw them when they originally ran at night at age 8, then when they hit Saturday morning I was there as a kid too, my favorite. Got the laserdiscs I could find of them, then the DVD set. looking forward to the documentary very much. Plugging away at rapidshare here, I have no account, I may be done in about a week, just glad they're still available, just saw your blog.

Frankenstein Jr. and Impossibles and Space Ghost were seen at 10:00-11:00 am here on the West Coast (I suspect it was the same on the East) and debuted in 1966, with episodes being repeated for the 1967 season, with the exception of six new 'Council of Doom' episodes that were created for Space Ghost and played once in primetime on the Friday night before all of the new '67 shows debuted the next morning as a sort of 'Preview of Coming Attractions'...
The Herculoids, Shazzan, Moby Dick and The Mighty Mightor all made guest appearances in those episodes as a way of introducing them to the throngs of kids losing their minds across the country... an INGENIOUS bit of marketing/programming by CBS!)
